Things are changing around here — and that’s a good thing.

Think back before the dot-com bubble, or as some like to call it, “dot-gone”. Back when using a phone line and enduring about 15 seconds of circa-1950 robotic sounds was the primary way to connect to the Internet. A time when the Dow Jones Industrial Average hit 10,000 for the first time in history and all seemed well in the world. WebRunners was right there in the middle of it all. Putting our stake in the ground in our generation’s “Space Race”.

Then the bubble burst. Chaos ensued. Fire and brimstone rained down in Silicon Valley. You know the story.

After the dust settled, we were still there, unaffected. No vaporized VC money we had relied on. No layoffs. Why? Because we built our business with a clear vision and we built it ourselves. A vision that every product or service we offer be something that adds value and truly helps our customers overcome business challenges. We still operate with that mentality today. Teaming up with clients of all sizes to overcome their unique challenges. Face it, everyone has challenges. But what if there was one less thing to worry about? What could you use that time for? How about not having to worry about your website going down? Or your valuable company data being lost because your life’s work was on a USB drive that just melted down?

Since 1998 we have existed to ensure our customers have maximum up-time and minimum technology headaches. That won’t change because it’s what defines us.

However, some other things have changed here at WebRunners. And we’re very excited about it.

Earlier this year we decided to spin-off our 13 year-old Shared Hosting business into its own company called Webology Hosting, lead by a very capable team we have worked with for many years. Last month we completed the transition without a hitch. The decision was made in order to focus as much as possible on delivering the best experience with our new products. We have our heads in the clouds. That’s because we built a whole new platform we call VMcloud using cutting-edge technologies from industry-leading partners like VMware and NetApp. This cloud platform allows us to further execute our vision of helping reduce un-needed headaches and maximizing our clients’ up-time. We’re proud to say that Webology Hosting’s entire customer base is now running in VMcloud.

As we open this new chapter for WebRunners, we know we can earn the same trust we have been fortunate enough to enjoy for over a decade from a multitude of happy Shared Hosting clients. Now join us as we expand in to the cloud. Our business is changing but our vision remains solid.

See you in the clouds!

WebRunners Team

As a leading software developer in the commercial building industry, Gehry Technologies enables thousands of industry professionals to create some of the most innovative building designs around. At the core of their philosophy is a focus on using technology and advanced methodology to help industry professionals take projects from design to construction more quickly than before. This flexibility allows building industry professionals to more effectively collaborate and reduce un-needed steps in the design process. Through Gehry Technologies’ software products, these professionals can design and construct buildings dramatically faster and with less complications than traditionally found in their industry while adhering to stringent industry standards.

However, Gehry Technology’s customers aren’t the only ones who required highly efficient and flexible environments. When it came to taking their existing on-line environment to the next level, Gehry Technologies’ IT director Bob Chen consulted with our engineers to implement an on-net, high-performance storage solution to serve their existing hybrid cloud architecture. Due to the resources required in deploying SAN architecture on his own, Mr. Chen chose to rely on our WebRunners hosted SAN solution. “With my limited initial budget, the ROI for deploying my own SAN would take years. I needed a solution that alleviates my budget concern without hindering growth and productivity.”

While growth is a good thing, it can be very expensive without a good growth strategy. Investing in your own high-performance, scalable computing resources may not be possible due to limited internal budgets. This is just one example of how cloud technology can help you more effectively allocate limited resources across your IT department and minimize up-front costs.

It’s quickly becoming common knowledge that virtualization is the way to go for managing server infrastructure, but how about in the context of an entire application? Let’s take a moment to look at virtualization from the application point of view.

Managing hosted applications can feel like a never-ending battle. Often times these applications are tied to specific (or even legacy) hardware platforms that require a large investment to implement and support, making them difficult and costly to scale. On the flip-side, many times they are simply a single-node instance running in Windows or Linux. Either way, dealing with both hardware and software simultaneously can create a large time sink for a system administrator. How can IT managers focus more of their resources on what matters (the application) and not on what shouldn’t matter (managing hardware)? Virtualization is how.

Through amazing progress in virtualization technology by companies like VMware or Citrix, it’s relatively painless and easy to migrate entire application instances in to the cloud – whether it be one server or several acting as a cluster. Many of our own customers have done the same, saving huge power and hardware costs in the process to free up valuable cash flow to other areas of their business.

Our VMcloud platform allows you to virtualize your entire application without costly downtime or re-install depending on the configuration, adding unprecedented flexibility, reliability, and performance. In addition, it allows you to reduce wasted computing power by allowing you to scale resources to the exact size you require and expand later as demands increase. VMcloud gives you:

Breakthrough performance

Outstanding reliability

Accelerated application life-cycle

Protection from costly downtime

Quick and dynamic scalability

Enterprise-grade computing hardware and storage

Our VMcloud platform provides these capabilities because it’s powered by VMware. VMware is the gold standard for virtualization and used by enterprise to drive billions in revenue. In fact, every Fortune 500 company relies on VMware for business-critical tasks. Now with WebRunners VMcloud, this enterprise-level product is accessible and affordable because we’ve invested in building a robust platform so you don’t.
